On Friday 23 May a fire swept through the Glasgow School of Art’s iconic Mackintosh Library, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1897-1909. The Library and all of its historical contents were effectively destroyed, though GSA is working with Historic Scotland to salvage any original fittings that remain.
Three of the GSA Archives and Collections stores survived, though they have suffered some water and smoke damage. A fire damage fund has been set up and the Librarians have compiled a wants list, further details can be found here.
The Glasgow School of Art has a video archive which includes video and audio recordings of past Fine Art, Design, and Architecture events – including “Friday Event” lectures, GSA Research presentations, “Architecture Friday” Lectures, Wednesday Night Forums, and other talks and events. Lectures that are part of the core teaching and learning at GSA can be accessed via the archive, as well as extra-curricular events hosted by the Exhibitions Department and partnerships like Glasgow Urban Lab, professional practise courses, and more.
